  • Critic Reviews of "Dr. Seuss' The Grinch (The Grinch)"

    Detroit News

"The Grinch" is a respectable, if safe, retelling of Dr. Seuss' holiday classic.

    Rolling Stone
    November 09, 2018

You're a Mediocre One, Mr. Grinch. Those expecting Cumberbatch to add a little Dr. Strange to his take on Dr. Seuss will be sorely disappointed as this animated take on the Grinch buries its kid audience under a blanket of bland..

    Chicago Sun-Times
    November 09, 2018

From time to time you'll laugh and maybe shed a tear, but this isn't the kind of Grinch you'll want to see each year.
    November 09, 2018

It does not surpass the Chuck Jones version (or having the book read aloud by a parent, which is still ideal) but it is far superior to the Carrey film and should become a welcome family tradition.

    Globe and Mail
    November 09, 2018

A critic needs only two words to dispense with The Grinch; the first one is bah.

    Los Angeles Times
    November 08, 2018

"The Grinch" is beautiful to look at, and diverting enough. The material written to fill out the story is entertaining, but it doesn't resonate. You can't top what Seuss wrote.

    Cinema Crazed
    November 11, 2018

Just another remix of Dr. Seuss' book that attempts to modernize the narrative with zero intention toward creativity or an engaging experience.

    Quad City Times (Davenport, IA)
    November 11, 2018

It's a modernized version of the classic that gives a little more depth to its cranky titular subject.

The latest adaptation of 'The Grinch' delivers a satisfying and enjoyable product that pushes Illumination Animation on the artistic front.

    Observer (UK)
    November 11, 2018

Sounds like pure sugar, but really it's just sweet.

    We Live Entertainment
    November 10, 2018

The Grinch is a remake that doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it does make enough changes from the original material to stand on its own.

    Rendy Reviews
    November 10, 2018

There is nothing Grinch-like to this incarnation. This isn't "The Grinch", this is Grinchᴸᴵᵀᴱ.
